Conference: Neurogenesis from development to adulthood in health and disease

The adult brain consists of billions of neurons that show an unimaginable complexity in their structural diversity and functional connectivity allowing for a plethora of brain functions. Notably, a large number of neuropsychiatric diseases are associated with early alterations in the number, structure, or connectivity of neural networks. Recent discoveries have also highlighted the importance of species-specific timing in developmental processes. Thus, understanding the process of neurogenesis, the life-long formation of neurons, and how these are similar or different across species is of fundamental importance to identify novel strategies for therapeutic approaches.

Building on the success of our previous Monte Verità conference, the purpose of this conference is to bring together experts in the fields of brain development, life-long neurogenesis, tissue engineering, bioinformatics and cellular reprogramming to discuss exciting new developments, and how they inform our understanding of neural development and plasticity.

Monte Verità rises on the hills above Ascona and Lake Maggiore, and has always been a magnetic pole of convergence of ideas, trends, experiments and historical figures. Immersed in the quiet and green of a park of more than 7 hectares, with an incomparable view of Lake Maggiore, it offers visitors a unique experience.
